Eligibility requirements

Every listing in this directory is added and maintained by JCEDC staff. A business is eligible when it meets the plain requirements below.

A Jersey City presence

The business operates from a Jersey City address, or serves Jersey City residents from a nearby base with a clearly defined service area.

Legally operating

The business is registered to do business in New Jersey and holds whatever licenses or permits its trade requires — food service, childcare, contracting, and similar regulated work included.

Open to the public

Residents and visitors can actually buy something: a storefront, a studio, a stall, a mobile service, or an online shop run from Jersey City all count. Holding companies and inactive entities do not.

Accurate, verifiable details

JCEDC staff confirm the name, location or service area, category, and at least one working way for customers to make contact before a listing is published.

Suitable for a public civic guide

Businesses in good standing with the city are eligible. Operations under active enforcement action, and categories the city does not promote in a public guide, are not.

Questions about eligibility?

JCEDC reviews and adds every listing, so there is no public form to fill in. If you believe a Jersey City business belongs in the directory, contact JCEDC and a staff member will take it from there. Your request is emailed to JCEDC staff, and you get a confirmation email that it was sent.
